2. CONTRIBUTION / MODERATION / ETC.
Anyone can contribute. After sending your entry form, please place
your work at your own website, or in a place where anyone can access
it.
We have only a limited web space on our own, so we are not able to
store large movie files. Nevertheless, we are building a archive of
the submitted works.
The screenings are editions, and not presenting all the submitted
works.
The reason for this is rather technical. Because many works are not
in movie file format, it is sometimes not possible to convert them to
mini-dv or streaming video, or the like. The nano website contains
all submissions in the form of a somewhat criptic database.
PLEASE MAKE SURE, YOUR WEB LINKS ARE WORKING BY 31 OCTOBER 2003
4. COPYRIGHT ISSUES
By submitting your work to the festival, you agree that you let
others copy, distribute, display, and perform your work and
derivative works based upon it but for noncommercial purposes only,
and only if they give you credit.

Shelter: an exhibit of art, home, and homelessness
Like food and water, the human need for shelter is one of the most essential:
to survive in this world, each person requires a place where they can be
protected from the elements; a place where they can find warmth; a place where, if
they are lucky, they are surrounded by the love of family and friends.
We create our shelters the best we can - some with the help of Pottery Barn
catalogues, some with cardboard boxes or mud bricks. At the core, however, is a
retreat where we go to seek comfort. Our shelter is our unique space where we
can take off our public masks and unleash our private selves. It is our place
to simply be.
Avenue 50 Studio in Northeast Los Angeles is seeking artists whose work
explores the concept of shelter in their own lives and in the greater community.
All mediums will be considered. Professional artists will have their work
installed in the show that will also include work by homeless men and women,
reinforcing the idea that shelter is a universal, fundamental human need.
"Shelter" is being curated by Jennifer Rowland, formerly of Gallery Figueroa.
Please submit a jpeg of the piece for consideration to: art@galleryfigueroa.com
You may also submit a description of the piece along with jpegs of previous
work.
Deadline for submissions is Nov. 5, 2003.
Selected work must be delivered to the Studio by Nov. 23, 2003.
The show will run through December. Opening and closing dates to be
determined.
Participating artists will be asked to contribute to the cost of the postcard
mailing.
For more information, please email Jennifer Rowland at redmangojr@aol.com.
Avenue 50 Studio is located at 131 N. Avenue 50 in Highland Park (323) 258-1435.

I am announcing that I have an idea for an art piece, to be completed by anyone who is willing to†collaborate for rights to its initial concept. Should you wish to use this idea, you will be able to disseminate it, exhibit it, and otherwise do as you wish with it. You may attach my name to the piece if you find it helps you with exhibitions, you may†limit it if you find it hurts you, so long as somewhere you acknowledge that the concept came from Eryk Salvaggio.
It is my feeling that this piece, upon completion, could earn you at least two to three exhibition experiences if marketed correctly; perhaps a grant or two for development if you have earned any before, as well as any number of potential write ups and press mentions. However, I make no promises.
To help you determine if this plan is for you, here are some guidelines:
1. The idea†leans toward a†socially progressive agenda.
2. The idea requires a good level of programming knowledge [flash/shockwave would probably work] to orchestrate.
3. It is a satirical†piece based on the prison for profit industry.
4. Given that I have no idea how to code, all development would be your responsibility.
5. Could be a large time commitment, but there's no pressure from me: finish it or never finish it, I don't care.
Please contact me at one38@one38.org if you are interested in†discussing how you†can obtain the details of†this project. Serious inquiries only. Students welcome + encouraged.†

CALL FOR ENTRIES
deadline 20.10.03
Inspector-London.co.uk is currently inviting artists to submit their
projects/ positions/strategies for inclusion on the stocklist of its UK
shop. Inspector is a European arts project sited on Ebay. It can also be
found at www.inspektor-berlin.de.
Inspector-London seeks a critical engagement with the digital
marketplace. It polemicises the transformation of the relationship
between object and subject, encourages potential dialogue around the
sale and explores the gap between information and reality.
Accepted projects will be displayed online using the existing buy/sell
format of Ebay, i.e. the projects will be presented as sellable goods
and, if applicable, sold. Inspector-London does not promote individual
artists or act as a gallery/agent.
Neither does it enter into conventional money-object
transactions.
To submit please download the submission form from
www.inspector-london.co.uk
Ebay has established itself as the alternative marketplace worldwide and
in so doing created a new exchange process. Goods can only be evaluated
through information /documentation provided by the seller. Actual
physical contact with the object is deferred until the point of
delivery. But rather than the standardised, objectified information
provided by most consumer spaces, such as supermarkets or catalogues,
the shelves of Ebay have been reclaimed by the language and imagery of
the individual.
Inspector-London also recognises how information technologies have
revolutionised the way in which these consumer goods are produced. The
transition of the design process to near exclusive use of information
technologies, such as CAD, combined with Flexible Manufacture systems
has further erased the distance between concept and realisation of
physical objects and changed the ontological perception of material.
Ebay demonstrates the increased significance and potential of
information value.

The National Museum of Contemporary Art Kalinderu Media Lab, Bucharest is presenting on December 12 the exhibition Emotional Architecture by Calin Dan. The first with this theme in a series of events created by the artist in relation with the urban situation of Bucharest, Emotional Architecture will attempt to shed a light on the personality of this small metropolis with large contrasts.
In order to better capture the complexity of the phenomenon Bucharest, Emotional Architecture is designed as a meeting point for various competences that entered in a dialogue with the city. One of the highlights of the project will be a data base of photographic images generated by those who travel(led) and/or inhabit(ed) the city at a certain point in time, and felt the urge to use their camera in order to capture this encounter.
The data base will be organized according to two criteria:
1.†key words - provided by the authors for every image they send (preferably one per image); key words should synthesise in a fast way the experience recalled by the image.
And
2. the names of the authors, clearly credited next to every image.
The data base will be available for browsing in the lounge section of the exhibition, and on-line at www.mnac.ro.
The National Museum of Contemporary Art Kalinderu Media Lab, Bucharest and Calin Dan are warmly inviting all interested parties to send images (.jpeg or .tiff, maximum size 600 x 800 pixels and 72 dpi resolution) to
calin@xs4all.nl,
with a cc: to
raluca@mnac.ro
Deadline for the exhibition display 15 November.
The EMOTIONAL ARCHITECTURE work environment is put into practice with the help of (until now): Mondriaan Foundation Amsterdam, Pro Helvetia - Romania, International Centre for Contemporary Art Bucharest, the Royal Embassy of the Netherlands in Romania, the European Cultural Foundation Amsterdam, BAK (Basis Aktuelle Kunst) - Utrecht, and various individuals.
