Hello, all.
The Esoteric Outreach Program is currently seeking
submissions for a group portfolio distribution CD-ROM.
The intent is to create a CD-ROM containing a
database of work from 20 artists to then be copied and
distributed to each of the participating artists, then
distributed by the artists (you) to various art
exhibition outlets (galleries, curatorial projects,
web-sites, etc.), and to ideally create active
connections amongst a mutually progressive group of
people.
We'll put the CD together and you'll pass it along
(weíll be doing a little bit of the passing along as
well) so as to get a wide and eclectic spread of
exposure.
Here are the specs:
- Each chosen artist will receive 35 MB of space on
the final CD ROM. We would prefer that the artists
chose 5 or 6 pieces of work, but are not limiting it
to that.
- Please submit work in JPG format.
- We would rather material be sent via physical mail
to:
The Esoteric Outreach Program
In care of Michael Dodge
41 South 5th Street
Brooklyn, NY 11211
Please include in your submissions:
- Any information (if desired) pertinent to you and
your work (i.e. Size; medium; commentary; site
specific instructions; resume and artistís statement)
- Your name and contact info
- The deadline for submitted work is July 14th, 2003.
- The CD-ROM will be completed and distributed in
August, 2003
If you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail
fourdetour@yahoo.com
Please pass this call for entries to other artists,
you.
Thank you,
The Esoteric Outreach Program

As some of you may already know, I'm going to Harvard this fall to
study architecture. Although I plan to visit Brooklyn as often as
possible, I know I won't be able to give the wburg.com website the time
it deserves. I don't, however, want to let it languish since wburg.com
has become more and more popular every month--there are hundreds of
subscribers, and in May there were an average of 214 visitors every day
(more than 500 on busy days) and an average of over 2,000 hits daily.
People regularly visit from as far away as Australia, Yugoslavia,
Argentina, and Norway. It's a great forum for ideas about art, news
about the neighborhood, stories, etc.
So...I'm trying to round up a posse of people who can take over
wburg.com. Although it's quite a lot of work for one person (although
only 4 times a year), for 3-8 people it could be quite easy (and the
hours are, of course, flexible). Also, new ideas might be good. (Do you
wish there was a fiction section? Do you wish there was more local
news? Would you like to see a gallery round up?) A few people have
already expressed interest, but there are a couple of key people still
missing.
Here are the two main jobs that wburg.com can't live without:
* Selling Ads: this requires someone who can handle deadlines, is
organized, and knows the neighborhood well. Just involves talking to
neighborhood business owners and explaining the ads to them, as well as
collecting payment, in exchange for a commission. This is where the
money comes from to pay the writers and everyone else.
* Producer: someone who knows basic HTML, Dreamweaver and Photoshop,
and can occasionally scan in photos (although most people submit
digital images). Experience with creating PDF files and sending out
mass emails (to subscribers) would also be helpful.
Remember that these aren't jobs in the regular sense--you wouldn't be
working for me, you'd just be working with each other to publish
wburg.com online four times a year. If you're interested or have ideas,
let me know and I'll arrange a meeting with other interested people.
Thanks!
Kirsten Hively

> ONE TAKE FILM FESTIVAL
> International festival of films shot in one take
>
> 14th à 16th November, Zagreb, Croatia
>
> The One Take Film Festival is an international festival of films shot in one
> take, that is films shot without interruption, from the moment of turning the
> camera on to the moment of turning the camera off.
>
> The One Take Film Festival eliminates a seemingly indispensable part of a film
> à namely, editing à and thus prohibits cut, dissolve, fade in/out and all
> other types of transitions. In that way, the One Take Film Festival makes room
> for a more stimulating concept of film and more exiting film-making.
>
> The One Take Film Festival is the only one of its kind in the world, and it
> takes place in Zagreb. This year's festival will be the first.
>
> The One Take Film Festival includes films of almost every genre in it's
> programme (documentary, fiction, experimental, music video and commercial).
> The running time of the films is not limited.
>
> The One Take Film Festival primarily emphasises the aesthetic act of
> film-making, and the one take is considered only a framework for ideas,
> emotions, stories for we shouldn't forget that, some years ago, workers had
> left the Lumiere factory in ´one takeª also. Therefore, one should not be
> fascinated with the fact.
>
> The One Take Film Festival, along with the official competition, offers
> numerous other events à premieres, lectures, exhibitions, concerts and of

>
> The One Take Film Festival will, in it's three-day programme, convince you of

Next 5 Minutes - International Festival for Tactical Media: Call for Tapes
DATES: 11th - 14th September
Amsterdam
The Next 5 Minutes is a festival that brings together art, campaigns, experiments in media, technology, and transcultural politics. The fourth edition of the festival is the result of a collaborative effort of a variety of organisations, initiatives and individuals dispersed world-wide.
We are looking for films, videotapes, dvd's and cd's. We are interested in media, created with a specific social, cultural or political agenda. Media of crisis, criticism and opposition. Media that provide an antidote to the world as we see it represented in mainstream media and current geopolitics.
The productions that you will send to us will become part of the so-called media-library, which can be accessed by any participant during the festival. Afterwards they will become part of the Next 5 Minutes Visual Archive, which is kept at the International Institute for Social History in Amsterdam.
Contributions can be selected for special screenings at the festival, for broadcasting on local cable tv and for broadband internet distribution, in which case we will ask your specific permission. You will receive a programme book in which the dates and spaces of these special screenings will be listed.
You will also receive the festival reader and the media-library catalogue.
We will accept contributions on all carriers (SVHS, Betacam, cd-rom, miniDV, dvd, pal/ntsc/secam, 16mm, 35mm, etc. VHS welcome but not preferred). Any length, any language.
